MP Thomas George provided the drinks and nibblies, catered by Our Place Wine and Espresso Bar, and also offered hearty congratulations to the chamber’s accomplishments and to the facilities now available under TAFE’s Connected Learning Centre (CLC) banner.
Of the new chamber, Mr George said it was great to finally see a community organisation representing the whole community, and congratulated the chamber on what it had achieved in essentially its first year.
Chamber president Vince Sherry said there was more to come, with at least two more business breakfasts planned for next year as well as an after-hours function and a social media workshop.
Mr Sherry also praised the CLC facilities, having already availed of them himself to undertake a food handling and safety course. TAFE’s Cassie Donnelly said two such courses had already been conducted utilising a digitally-connected learning experience between Tenterfield and companion CLCs in Glen Innes and Quirindi. The teacher provided face-to-face training in Tenterfield and students in the other two centres joined in through videoconferencing.
Face-to-face confined spaces training has also been conducted recently and an upcoming introduction to early childhood course will see the teacher rotating through four CLCs to share the face-to-face experience while the other centres link in.
Whereas once a minimum of 10-12 students in one centre was required before a course could be run, now individuals can access courses run statewide.
“We’re very flexible in what we can offer,” Ms Donnelly told attendees.
“It’s amazing the facilities that we have here, and we have a number of new courses starting next year. The range is massive.”
Chamber members and guests were treated to a taste of those high-tech facilities, with screen shows provided by audiovisual expert Peter Harris and keen photographer Peter Reid, before enjoying some networking opportunities and local food and wine.
