While Mr Reid is no newcomer to the championship board, it’s Mr Rochford’s first appearance. Club president Patricia Barry said the champions are determined through interclub competition over a number of months, collating points along the way to arrive at the club’s highest point scorers.
Another highlight of the club’s year was the annual congress in October.
“It was a wonderful congress, with 96 players from all over,” Mrs Barry said.
“It was an excellent weekend.”
This year’s congress saw a change in venue from Memorial Hall to the club’s home ground at the Golf Club. Mrs Barry said this made it a lot easier to set up and cater.
“It worked out well. The congress is a mammoth effort,” she said.
Local club membership is stable at 24, with players meeting at the Golf Club on Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Mrs Barry said new players are always welcome, and the evening meets act as a come-and-try with a learning program and no membership requirement.
“And playing bridge is so good for the brain.”

The club has now gone into hiatus for the Christmas period, starting up again January 8 when Mrs Barry looks forward to another good year and seeing lots of new faces.
