The competition consists of two sections: Original and Established (Modern or Traditional). A choice of day is offered to competitors as there are three heats before the finals on Saturday, January 27: Heat 1 – Tuesday January 23, Heat 2 – Thursday January 25, and Heat 3 – Friday, January 26. All sessions start at 10.30am at St Edwards Parish Hall, 72 Hillvue Road, South Tamworth.
Entry forms are available from the ABPA website: abpa.org.au/events and entries close when all sessions are filled. It’s $5 to sit in the audience.
The hall will also serve as the venue for the second installment of The Frank Daniels Walk Ups Awards. Come along and put your name on the board prior to the session, and entry is $5. Heat 1 is on Saturday, January 20, Heat 2 is Sunday, January 21 and Heat 3 is Tuesday January 23 with the finals on Thursday, January 25. All sessions are from 2-4pm.
Two workshops – ‘writers’ and ‘performers’ – will be conducted on Monday, January 22, again at the hall. The Presenters for the writer's workshop will be Tom McIlveen and Bill Kearns, and for the performance workshop will be Rhonda Tallnash and well-known raconteur Jack Drake.
All presenters are award-winning poets with a wealth of tips and information to share. The writer's workshop is from 10am-noon and the performance workshop from 2-4pm. Entry is free.
