New England MP Barnaby Joyce has informed council that it should now submit a formal application for $3000 for a digital honour board and published book. Applications close on February 28.
“The committee is pleased and proud that their Expression of Interest has progressed,” Mayor Peter Petty said.
Families throughout the Tenterfield Shire have a huge connection with World War I and it is only right and just that as the centenary of Anzac draws to a close, council and the members of the Anzac Centenary Steering Committee are able to again contribute to the community in some way”.
Mayor Petty expressed his thanks to the Anzac Centenary Committee for the array of events they have brought to the community during the centenary years while always honouring the fallen.
“The past four years have been sobering, inspiring and educational in this regard,” he said.
“We have learnt much about our forebears and tried to understand the unimaginable conditions they endured during the years of war, on all the fields of battle and at the home front. We have discovered heroes we did not know.
“However, we have done all this with solemnity and grace. The committee have provided this wonderful connection.”
