Tenterfield Bowling Club was abuzz for the Australia Day Weekend Carnival with 192 bowlers from the New England clubs, as well as teams from Toowoomba, Millmerran , Coolangatta, Mullumbimby, Grafton, Inverell and Goondiwindi contesting the Australia Day Triples, the Saturday Fours and the Sunday Pairs.

Winners of the Triples were a team from Millmerran and North Toowoomba of Alby Gibbs, Maree Gibbs and Graeme Kath.
The Tenterfield team of Rob Alcock, Barbara Carter and Shirley Alcock came second.
A strong Summit team of Mick Mills, Frank Taylor and Dale Callaghan combined with Tenterfield’s Elana Scott to take out the Saturday Fours title.
Best performance by other Tenterfield players was a scratch team put together at the last moment with Gaye Wilmot (The Summit), Alby Gibbs (Millmerran), Shirley Tribe and Don Lewis (Tenterfield) who came third.
So that was great to see players who donated their time to fill late cancellations get into the money.
In the Sunday Pairs, the powerful West Toowoomba team of Larraine Callaghan and Tracey Foster won overall and displayed very high standard bowls.
Runners up were the Inverell team of Dennis Williams and Ian Jacobs while Mick Mills and Frank Taylor from the Summit were again in the money for third.
Well done to all involved. I regard all the visiting bowlers as our bowls club extended family and we look forward to catching up at future carnivals.

It was fantastic to see the greens full and everyone having a great time – the standard of bowls was very high although lady luck intervened several times with lucky slides off outside bowls to get the shot – but that’s the beauty of bowls.
Favourable comments were received congratulating the Ladies Committee for the morning teas and the restaurant for the lunches.
Winners of the visitors Motel accommodation prizes were Joe Strathman (The Summit) on Friday, Peter Macdonald (Mullumbindy) on Saturday & Alby Gibbs (Millmerran) on Sunday – congrats to all winners.
“While this is the first Australia Day carnival that I’ve been involved with, I have been most impressed by the numbers of visiting bowlers, the high standard of bowls, the organisation of the carnival and the way the whole Tenterfield team of motel, bar staff, restaurant, mens and ladies committees pulled together to make it a great success,” club president Jim Bennett said.
