Tourism minister Adam Marshall will be returning to what was his electorate (before boundary realignments) to officially open the show on Saturday, February 10. The show was named Event of the Year in the 2017 Tenterfield Business and Tourism Excellence Awards and the Tenterfield True brand is enjoying a successful rollout with visitor numbers increasing, making tourism a timely topic.
This year’s grand parade will feature the Brisbane-based Light Horse Marching Band setting the beat of the march with military music. Lawn-mower racing is making a welcome return to the main ring on Friday night, thanks to sponsorship from North Coast Fuel Supplies.
Small breeds will be front-and-centre this year in the Stud Cattle area, with lots of Devons, Belted Galloways and more kid-sized cattle around for the children to appreciate. For some hands-on animal interaction, however, the animal nursery returns.
The Memphis Moovers are back again due to popular demand, and will even be conducting ukulele workshops for the musically-included.
Show secretary Robyn Murray said there’s been a good response for trade stands, promising an excellent display of new equipment like tractors and implements, zero-turn ride-on mowers, ATVs (all terrain vehicles), gardening equipment and the like.
The mounted police will be on the grounds keeping an eagle-eye on what’s happening, and are expected to participate in the grand parade as well.
Ms Murray said there’d be lots of food outlets and sideshow alley will be buzzing. Carnivalland is bring the Hurricane, Sizzler, Dodgems, Giant Slide, Cup N Saucer, Rock Wall, Chair O Plane and a variety of jumping castles, plus of course everyone’s a winner on the Laughing Clowns.
Ride tickets and show memberships are available now from the show office under the grandstand.
The show of course is the venue this year for the 2018 National Australian Chainsaw Racing Titles, promising a steady rumble from the lower ring. State-of-origin action, however, moves to the main ring in front of the grandstand on Friday night, with the ever-popular fireworks and demolition derby sponsored by Townes Contracting taking over the ring on the Saturday night.
The fun extends into both Friday and Saturday evenings with a bar and live entertainment happening until late.
The Chainsaw Racing Titles continue on Sunday, and entry that day is free. The New England Veteran and Vintage Car Club will have some of its excellent vehicles on display on the Friday and Saturday of the show, before hosting a show-and-shine on Sunday in conjunction with the chainsaws.
Food vendors are being encouraged to stay on for the Sunday, so it should be a fun day to hit the showground (again).
With the show hosting the Chainsaw Racing Titles and the Miss Showgirl competition celebrating its 50th anniversary, the theme for this year’s show is All geared up, be it machine-wise or in formal finery. The show runs February 9-11.
