Put on your (red) thinking cap for ideas

The Bohemian Tearoom was the venue for the first meeting this year of the Tenterfield Tulips – the local chapter of the Red Hat Society – to start filling in the diary for social outings for the coming months.

‘Queen’ Stephanie Taylor is keen for the social group to have a variety of activities on the calendar, “night/day, home and away” as she said, to suit both retired members and those still working.

The focus is on fun without a huge cost outlay, and members chip in a gold coin at each meeting and run small raffles so that funds are accumulated to defray the cost of coach hire, for instance, for away occasions.

One of those on the horizon is the Emmaville Sheep Races next month, which will be an eye-opener for the uninitiated. What it will also be is an occasion for the ladies to dress up in their track-side best.

“Country ladies don’t get a lot of opportunities to dress up,” Mrs Taylor said.

“We’re usually in working clothes, out on the land. It’s good to bling up occasionally.”

The Tenterfield Tulips will also be heading out to the Tenterfield Theatre of the Drama Group’s upcoming productions, and to Warwick’s Jumpers & Jazz festival in July. An invitation has been extended to other Red Hat groups in the area for joint activities as well.
