Many have taken a similar line to Mr Joyce – that his “private life is private”.
His party has rallied around him and closed its ranks, with Nationals MPs publicly criticising their party leader.

Even Labor Party leader, Bill Shorten, steered clear of getting involved.
“I think it would be wise of Mr Turnbull to reassure the Australian public that nothing untoward has occurred here,” Mr Shorten said.
“Barnaby Joyce’s private life is his business.”
