The early Easter this year has compressed the schedule for a lot of local show and zone events, with Tenterfield’s 2017 Miss Showgirl Ellie Griffiths barely having time to hand on her crown before heading to Armidale for zone judging.

Ellie wasn’t picked to go on to represent the zone at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show, but said she has no regrets about carrying the Miss Showgirl title for the past 12 months.
The judging process in Armidale resembled that of Tenterfield judging, with an interview on Saturday morning followed by a ball that night where the contestants faced two questions. Ellie said her questions were about her hobbies and interests, and about the importance of the showgirl competition to country towns.
It was with a mixture of excitement and some sadness that Ellie handed over the title to 2018 Miss Showgirl Keely Moonie, whom Ellie thinks will handle the role very well.
Keely now has a full year to prepare for zone judging, at a location yet to be announced, and 12 months of representing the Show Society at events and occasions.
