The report to council on whether its purchase of the Tenterfield Saddler premises and trademark would be a viable venture – originally anticipated for tabling at the council’s February meeting – has been postponed to the March meeting, mayor Peter Petty said.

“It needs more time,” he said.
In the meantime councillors will participate in a workshop with council’s business development manager Harry Bolton, to clarify what they expect to see in the report.
Cr Petty remains hopeful that the project will prove fruitful, and said he’s received a lot of positive feedback on the prospect of council taking over ownership and management of the landmark which is so popular with tourists.
“There are a lot of positive vibes,” he said.
He did stress, however, that the venture would have to stand on its on merits.
“I’ll be the first to vote ‘no’ if it’s something we’d have to prop up for years to come,” he said.
