Mayor Peter Petty said council is very concerned with the bank’s decision to reduce its weekday hours of operation to 10am to 2pm.
He fears it’s just the start of a wider battle to keep the bank’s presence in town. Westpac bank has already closed its branch with a reduced counter service via the Post Office. The Commonwealth Bank continues to operate at the more traditional hours of 9.30am to 4pm (5pm on Fridays).
At just short of $7 million Cr Petty said council has a substantial investment in the NAB which may find a home elsewhere should a review of the situation not be undertaken.
He and council general manager are lining up a meeting with bank executives to air their concerns.
