Be it cricket, bowls, fishing or relaxing that appeals, the Tenterfield Bowling Club is trialling a special weekend on March 17/18 that can combine all four.

Former Australian test cricketer Len Pascoe has organised a couple of his mates from the Hi-Tide radio show on 2SM to broadcast from the Bowlo on Saturday afternoon. As the club adjoins one of the prettiest country cricket fields in Australia Mr Pascoe is also taking the opportunity to coach some up-and-coming cricketers on aspects of the game.
OzFish Limited members have come on board with their local fishing knowledge to contribute to the fishing radio show hosted by Kieran Reekie and Alan Blake, and other special guests include pro fisherman Laurie Mcenally plus more surprises including giveaways.
Club manager Peter McDade said the offer to host the event was not something that came up every day and, although there is a cost involved for the club this has been relieved somewhat thanks to sponsorship from TDG Business Services.
He’s aiming for a fun family weekend with lots of entertainment. Aspiring cricketers from 8-16 years are invited to come along to Shirley Park from 1-2pm on Saturday for the coaching clinic, before families retire to the Bowlo for the radio show and making a weekend of it.
As Saturday is also St Patrick’s Day there will be some special Kilkenny Guinness at the bar, and feel free to wear green to match the theme. Josh Moylan will be providing live music in the evening from 6.30pm, following the monster raffle at 6pm.
There will be a recovery breakfast at the club on Sunday morning when the barbie lights up from around 9am, with fishing in nearby Tenterfield Creek to practise any tips gleaned from the experts (or to try out new gear that may have been won).
If the special effort is well-supported Mr McDade said more outside-the-box events could be in store.
