Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Support Group president John ‘Dodge’ Landers was thrilled when approached by Tenterfield’s new rugby club the Bumblebees to be the recipient of the proceeds from a day of rugby this Saturday, March 24.
The Festival of Rugby will take over Federation Park from noon with four big games before the party moves onto a Pavilion Party at the Tenterfield Showground from 6pm. There’s free entry to watch the games but a $10 cover charge for the after-party, with live music, and a bar and barbecue operating.
“There’ll be raffles and heaps of fun,” Mr Landers said.
“That’s why they play rugby, to have a good time. In league you’re in it to win.”
It will be the first trial game for the Bumblebees, which is being billed as a family-oriented club. Club secretary Tony Fibbins said the squad trains Tuesdays and Thursday from 6.30pm at Federation Park and always welcomes more players.
“Especially props,” he said.
