The Super Spuds head to Tenterfield for the opening round to face the Tigers, who also return to the Group after a stint in the Border Rugby League competition.
The league taggers will get the season going against a Tigers team who missed out on playing last year due to lack of numbers in the Border competition.
“They [league taggers] have been training really well. They have been setting an example for the whole club really, they are always at training,” Spuds president Mick Wilson said.
In the men’s competition, the Spuds will face the Tigers who are yet to take to the field in 2018 with no trial matches in the lead-up to the season.
Tenterfield captain-coach Brendan Minns said his team lack a bit “size but we have plenty of speed out the back and that will be one of our strong points” while Wilson believes Guyra have a comfortable mix of both.
“Across the park we have a little bit of both but fitness might get us.They will go pretty good but we are just unsure with what Tenterfield have got,” Wilson said.
Guyra will be without player-coach Dan Vidler, who will serve a six week suspension with three weeks leftover from a 2012 infringement and three weeks handed down from his send-off in the trial against Armidale.
