Haddington activities officer Michelle McBurney was very pleased with the enthusiastic participation, with 17 ‘athletes’ traveling up for the event from Millrace along with extra carers requiring a few trips of the minibus.
Twenty participants flew the flag for Haddington, with the remainder cheering from the sidelines. Although no scores were kept officially, Ms McBurney said some of the participants were quite competitive.
She roped in lots of people to act as timers and record keepers for the four events: put-put golf, magnetic darts, 10-pin bowling and quoits, with the athletes rotating through the stations.
Everyone received a medal and the placegetters also got certificates as evidence of their expertise.
Fortunately there were no sporting injuries, and the day was so successful it may become an annual event.
“Many people did better than they thought they would,” Ms McBurney said.
The games were followed by a barbecue with Layton Page manning the tongs, and Ms McBurney said the Haddington kitchen did well to cater for all the additional guests.
“Everyone really enjoyed it, you could see the smiles on their faces.
“It was a bit of a change and the social aspect was great, they just had fun together chatting.”
