If you haven’t already dipped your toe into one of the infamous nights, tables of 6-8 put their heads together to answer rounds of questions covering a plethora of topics, all devised by quizmaster John Tapscott.
There are also blocks of trivia questions that stretch over the whole evening, which is punctuated by physical challenges to keep the blood circulating to the brain for the more intellectual portions of the program.
Rotorian Peter Chittick said it’s a good strategy to have a mix of backgrounds, ages and interests in your group to cover as many areas as possible, but the object of the game is more about socialising than winning.
Even those who can’t make up a table are encouraged to come along early on the night and they will be placed into an accommodating group.
Those who do have their tables organised need to book with Karen or Helen at Tenterfield Insurance Agencies on (02) 6736 2426 or email karen@tenterfieldinsuranceagencies.com so the Rotarians know how many tables to set up.
A panel of judges adjudicates on the answer sheets, and their decision in final.
Also definitely no mobile phones are to be used in determining answers to the trivia questions.
“Where’s the fun in that,” Mr Chittick asked.
Table groups are invited to devise a snazzy name and even come dressed in theme. Around a dozen tables have already been booked and Mr Chittick said the organisers aim for around 22 tables, or 160 people.
Bring along nibblies for the table to share or platters can be pre-ordered from the restaurant.
The major raffle to be drawn on the night is a wheelbarrow full of gardening supplies worth more than $300, courtesy of Mitre 10 and Thrifty-Link Hardware. Increase your chances of a win with tickets also on sale in the run-up to the night, so keep an eye out for the Rotary stand popping up outside Coles.
Proceeds from the night go towards keeping our young drivers safe on the roads through the Tenterfield High School’s driver training program.
