Drake Village has received a big boost with a substantial donation from Tenterfield Shire Council to help with the purchase of a defibrillator for the community.
Many local community groups – including Drake Public School P&C, Drake Rural Fire Service, Rural Transaction Centre and Drake Progress Association – also lent their support for this worthy cause.
Genuine thanks must go out to all who contributed, as the community of Drake now has a defibrillator installed and ready for use at the Lunatic Hotel.
Although we hope it will never be needed, the local community now has the ability to save a life if the need arises.
The Heart Foundation estimates around 15,000 people die unexpectedly in Australia from sudden cardiac death every year.
A defibrillator dramatically improves survival rates if applied in minutes. St John’s Ambulance said having one nearby can mean the difference between life and death.
