The Bees started well but allowed the top-of-the-table Killer Whales side to kick away the game and take the win 31-8
“The defence wasn't too bad, but we had trouble with our scrum and our line-out,” coach Phil Jones said.
“We led a big part of the first-half and they got a run of penalties which they kicked.
“Our intensity was good but we just made silly errors and gave them 15 points from kicks in front.
“At the end of the day there wasn't a lot in it other than that.”
Despite the scoreline, Jones believes it was a close match.
“Mistakes and penalties cost us. For most of the second-half there was only one try in it,” he said.
“In the last five minutes they scored two tries and that was it.
“We matched them in rucking and mauling and all that but their scrum and line outs were a lot stronger than ours.
“We had not ball, if we would have had 20 per cent of the ball we would have been doing well.
This Saturday the draw re-starts with Tenterfield travelling to Kyogle.
The Bees defeated Kyogle 18-nil in round one but Jones is expecting a different prospect on their home turf.
“They will be strong down there, they have really improved so I wouldn't be taking them too lightly.
“We have a few players out this week so it is going to be a bit of a test down there I think.”
