When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Australia later this year, they are looking to visit somewhere outside of Sydney.

They will be in Sydney for the Invictus Games, which are being held over a week, October 20 – 27, and full security planning is underway for their anticipated visit with Sydney currently awaiting official confirmation from Kensington Palace of the pair’s attendance.

But they have time on their itinerary to take in another location while they are in the country, prompting speculation about where they will choose to go.

While Bathurst MP Paul Toole has already announced he is behind a push to get the newly-married couple to the central west city of Bathurst, we put in a call to Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall and asked if there was any chance Harry and Meghan would come to our part of the world

We admit it’s a long-shot, but there is plenty of attractions for the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex to see that would be much better than a lap around Mount Panorama.

That could include a visit to the Tenterfield Saddler building, or maybe the Standing Stones in Glen Innes. Other popular attractions in the New England include Copeton Dam near Inverell and the Big Golden Guitar at Tamworth.

The Big Lamb at Guyra could be a nice spot for a photo, or further west in Mr Marshall’s electorate they could spend time in the artesian pools at Moree.

Mr Marshall said he would love to see them in the Northern Tablelands, but he added the distance from Sydney could make it difficult.

“They are on a tight tight-frame, so they would probably look closer to Sydney. Bathurst or the Hunter Valley have been mentioned,” Mr Marshall said.

It’s a shame really, because we believe somewhere like Armidale would be a far more worthy city for Harry and Meggs to visit.

The prince and actress have dominated headlines since they were married in service in London last weekend.

Celebrations were also held closer to home for the occasion, including a royal wedding reception at Inverell’s Aussie Hotel.

Mr Marshall is the Minister for Tourism and Major Events, and it is in that capacity that he said he would probably get to meet Harry and Meghan while they are here.

Maybe that will be as close as they get to the Northern Tablelands.
