It’s coming up to just three months away and the Peter Allen Festival enjoyed its official launch last week, fittingly on the steps of the Tenterfield Saddler.

Although details of more independently-run events attached to the festival are yet to be rolled out, festival directors Josh Moylan and Matt Sing announced two shows at the Tenterfield School of Arts of Tenterfield to Rio, Danny Elliot’s tribute to Peter Allen.
The two-hour cabaret-style shows will be at 7pm on Friday, September 7 and a matinee at 2pm on Saturday, September 8. The $39 tickets are available online now and are already selling, according to Mr Moylan. They will also be available at local outlets soon but are limited to 200 per performance.

Rouse Street will be transformed into Peter Allen Boulevard from 8am to 5pm on the Saturday, closed to traffic but jammed with 180 market stalls, workshops, entertainment and performing stages. The regular Farmers and Producers Market will relocate down from the Uniting Church Hall for the day, the Tenterfield Horticultural Society will be incorporating its annual Spring Flower Show and shops are being encouraged to remain open for the duration.
At Tenterfield Memorial Hall on Saturday night from 7pm to midnight the Tenterfield Jam Session will feature 15 local and regional performers around a headline band, and the theme is ‘Aussie favourites’.
The hall will become a licensed venue (entry restricted to those aged 18 and over) with an ‘Aussie Burger Bar and Water Hole’ pop-up restaurant and bar operated by local service clubs. Tickets cost $29 and are again can be bought online now, but are restricted to the first 600.

“I am honoured as mayor to be here today and show our support as council,” Tenterfield Shire Council Mayor Peter Petty said at the Saddler launch.
“I wish the committee well and I know it will be a fantastic three days in September.”
The festival has full support from The Peter Allen Trust in the USA and, importantly, Peter’s family. It’s being billed as a celebration of Peter’s music, rural life, heritage, history, food, local produce, local talent and the Indigenous history of the area. The festival runs September 7-9, under the auspices of the Tenterfield Business Chamber.
