Longterm committeeman Bernie Ford was pleased to receive some feedback on a young horse he was riding on the day, but was wondering why the large crowd including club patrons, sponsors and cattle donors had gathered. He was even more surprised and taken aback when it was announced he was being granted life membership of the Campdraft Club.
It is a well-deserved honour for Bernie who has been a mentor, cattle donor, provider of horses and gear, behind-the-scenes tree waterer and – on odd occasions – a regular supporter of the bar on campdraft weekends.
Bernie joins the ranks of four other surviving life members including wife Robyn who is the longterm club treasurer. Adding to the surprise was the presence of their son Peter and family who travelled from Brisbane for the occasion.
