Top price went to $13,000 for rising two year old Alumy Creek Ranch House MO44 by Peterson Angus Ranch House 349 bought by Mark Chorley, “Kelmara” Tenterfield who chose the bull on visual assessment over its top five per cent 400 day weight figures (+96) and balanced estimated breeding values. This is Mr Chorley’s fifth bull from Alumy Creek and he has used previous purchases to help create a line of ribbon-winning heifers and steers at Stanthorpe sales.
“I liked the look of him as well as the new blood lines which is important as I keep my own heifers. He will be good over cows or heifers and he does have good figures for milk (+20).”
Volume buyers were Tony Roseby and Vonie Griffin, formerly Chinchilla and lately Rowleys River via Cooplacurripa, east of Nowendoc who came away with 14 bulls topping at $12,000 for 21 month old Alumy Creek Micalo M094 by Carabar Wheelwright H215 from Alumy Creek Doris which goes back to Connealy blood on both sides. Micalo’s figures include top three per cent performance at 200 (+55) and 400 (+101) day growth, top 4pc carcase weight (+77) and top 1pc for feed efficiency with a predicted eye muscle area of +3.9 square centimetres.
Ms Griffin said the bulls were selected on figures first and confirmed visually on sale-day. The couple moved to Rowleys River six months ago on an improving property that has been destocked since they bought it.
Joe and Liz Austin, Coombadjha via Grafton bought four bulls to a top of $7000 for Alumy Creek Magnet M109 by Carabar Wheel Wright H215 with balanced EBVs and top 25pc dollar traits for domestic (+$114) and heavy grass (+$118).
Repeat buyer Matt Tennyson of Tigrigie Cattle Company at Taroom, Qld, picked up seven bulls for an average of $7150, to a top of $10,000 for Alumy Creek All In M004 by Deer Valley All In.
Several repeat buyers buyers from the southern slopes of the Border Ranges came away with bulls, including Trevor Young, Old Koreelah, who bought two bulls paying up to $11,000 for 22 month old Alumy Creek Ranch House M059, by PA Ranch House.
Bids were taken by Brian Kennedy, Elders, Armidale, and Darren Perkins, George and Fuhrmann, Casino.
