The scheme replaces the ‘free waste’ dockets that were attached to the bottom of rates notices giving ratepayers three free loads to the transfer station (if they didn’t misplace the dockets).
Councillors opted to discontinue the dockets as they presented administrative difficulties for waste staff and there are many households in the community who couldn’t use them. Instead, council is offering all residents of Tenterfield Shire the opportunity to dispose of their waste for free at any of council’s transfer stations for one week.
From Monday, July 23 to Sunday, July 29 the free waste days will operate during routine opening hours. Proof of residency will be required.
The second free waste week will be held in the last week of January.
Note that general domestic waste only will be accepted, and the scheme excludes items specifically listed in council’s Fees & Charges Schedule such as tyres, vehicle bodies, engine oil, chemicals, furniture (including mattresses), white goods and asbestos.
