Cooper placed fifth out of a field of 62 runners in his age group. Mum Kaela said he went in with no expectations, given the large field, but was thrilled to finish where he did.
“I couldn’t be more proud of him,” she said.
“He’s my little pocket rocket.”
The nine-year-old The Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Public School student was among several of the school’s runners to compete at the regional event. Students earned their start in the regionals by finishing in the top six of the earlier district competition hosted by TSHPMPS last month.
Many parents and carers were on hand to support their children and schools on that day, which of course was only a success due to the hard work of staff and volunteers who set up, helped throughout the day and packed up. Appreciation goes to Jen for running the canteen with her volunteers and to the Tenterfield High School for providing students to help out.
TSPMPS students who placed in the top 10 at the district level were:
8/9 yrs boys: Cooper (2nd), Mitchell (7th), Ryan (9th).
10 yrs boys: Alex (1st, Seth (2nd), Sonny (7th), Darcy (8th) and Max (9th).
11 yrs boys: Ezra (5th), Harrison (6th).
12/13 boys: Thomas (9th), Chris (10th).
8/9 yrs girls: Cadence (3rd), Lila (9th), Olivia (10th).
10 yrs girls: Beth (1st), Matilda (3rd), Kyanna (4th) Jasmine (6th), Scarlett (7th).
11 yrs girls: Lucy (1st), Elly (6th), Ashah (7th), Sahri (8th), Tiffany (9th), Jessika (10th).
12/13 yrs girls: Luci (4th), Khushi (6th), Abby (8th), Milly (10th).
Congratulations to Lucy who was named 11 yrs girls champion, Beth who was junior girls champion and Cooper scored the junior boys runner-up medallion, and to all students who did a wonderful job representing their school.
