He said he won’t be showing up in lycra but MP Barnaby Joyce promised he’ll be supporting September’s inaugural Peter Allen Festival in other aspects, including a federal grant to the tune of $30,000.

Mr Joyce met with festival directors Josh Moylan and Matt Sing to announce that the organising committee had been successful in securing the $30,000 Building Better Regions under the Community Investments stream. This funding supports, amongst other things, new local events which are seen to deliver economic and social benefits to regional communities like Tenterfield.
”Josh and Matt have done a power of work to get the festival up and running, and it’s great to support that effort,” Mr Joyce said.

With tourism such an important aspect of the shire’s economy, aside from the direct benefits the festival will bring Mr Joyce sees it as an opportunity to inform visitors of other aspects of the area’s heritage such as federation, the first campdraft and the contributions of local identities like Harry Chauvel and JF Thomas.
Mr Moylan said the money received from the Building Better Regions Fund will be used to boost the festival’s marketing and its reach in print, on radio and online.
“Money will also contribute towards more performances, entertainment and workshops, as well as increasing the visual appeal of the festival and the decorations around town,” he said.
To that end a meeting of craft-minded people was held at Our Place Wine and Espresso Bar on Tuesday, July 10, setting the wheels in motion for a craft woking bee in August to prepare for the festival weekend on September 7-9.
