The burn is a joint operation of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Rural Fire Service.
RFS district officer Steven Pritchard said with the wind direction predicted to change tomorrow, crews are grabbing the opportunity to get the two-day fire under control. So far around 1800 hectares have been burned out along Talmoi Road and the fire is currently burning within containment lines in rugged terrain within Bald Rock National Park and private properties. There are no properties currently under threat.
The RFS is advising residents in the vicinity of Talmoi Road and Mount Lindesay Road areas to monitor the situation and ensure their Bush Fire Survival Plan is up to date.
Bald Rock and Boonoo Boonoo National Parks have been closed to the public for safety reasons.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Superintendent Chris Wallbridge said a lot of the fires crews have attended over the past few weeks have been hazzard control fires lit on private property which have got out of control.
“Property owners need to be aware that conditions are extremely dry and fires that start can be difficult to control in these conditions. These fires have burnt out significant stock fodder, threatened a number of farm sheds and resulted in stock having to be destroyed.
Fire permits are required in the Tenterfield, Kyogle, Glen Innes and Inverell local government areas.
