Tenterfield High School’s under 13 rugby league side have won the NSW Small Schools Country Cup.
The young squad took out the title after defeated Cootamundra’s Sacred Heart Central School 30-22 in the final in Dubbo on Wednesday.
It was a big feat for the young squad with only one reserve and a handful of players joining the team from Ashford.
Last week coach Phil Jones said there are “some terrific little footballers in there” and it will “be interesting to see how they go.”
“They have achieved a fair bit in the last couple of years, at primary school level, they had a pretty good side there,” he said.
“We have only got one reserve, we have got a couple of Ashford boys as well because we don't have a lot of them.
“It is full of really handy little footballers.
“That Braith Clark played combined primary schools last year and he is a proper little footballer, he can read the game pretty well.”
More than 400 schools compete in both the bigger schools’ Country Cup and small schools division.
