This fire has now been contained. Firefighters remain on scene to mop up.
There are reports of power poles down with the possibility of wires still being active.
The Bruxner Highway between Tenterfield and Casino was reopened about 5,30pm after being closed in both directions earlier, due to a bushfire near Tabulam.
Diversions have been lifted.
There are unconfirmed reports of property damage. Building Impact Assessments teams have been sent to assess the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Motorists can use Summerland Way, the Gwydir Highway and the New England Highway as an alternative route but will need to allow plenty of extra travel time.
EARLIER SATURDAY: A bush fire is burning in the Plains Station Rd, Tabulam area. The fire is currently 10 hectares in size and is out of control.
It is has crossed the Clarence River.
The Bruxner Highway is now closed at the Tabulum Bridge and authorities have warned it is too late to leave.
Strong winds may push embers well ahead of the fire, creating spot fires. These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front.
The RFS has sent emergency alert telephone messages have been sent to residents.
Take shelter in a solid structure and protect yourself from the heat of the fire. It is too late to leave.
