The bar was open when members of the Tenterfield Bumblebees Rugby Union Football Club gathered in the main pavilion at the Tenterfield Showground to celebrate the end of their first season in the Far North Coast’s President’s Cup competition.

Their year started off with a bang with an 18-nil opening round triumph over Kyogle, following on from a 15-nil trial match win over St Albert’s College. The season then unfolded with the club experiencing a number of highs and lows to make the semifinals.
Two of the hardest games were saved to the end, against Yamba and Evans River which went on to rank second and first, respectively, in the final standings. The ‘Bees came a respectable fourth overall for a young team, just one point behind Kyogle.
On presentation night, Rookie of the Year cheers were shared by Lachlan Dorward, Thomas Grimson, Kurt Frattin and Joseph Blackler. Adam Clothier was named Most Improved and Jack Thomas was Highest Point Scorer, while Jeremy Phipps and Jason Maunder won Best Forward and Best Back respectively.
Matt Duff was awarded Players’ Player and Murray Johnston named Best & Fairest. The club can’t operate without its supporters and Scott and Gina Carpenter were awarded Club Man and Club Woman of the Year.
