The black-tie event has been created to raise awareness in the community of the need to support Tenterfield Care Centre, and also raise much-needed funds to continue to provide these services to Tenterfield and its families.
The evening will also pay tribute to Col Mann and past and present committees for their tireless efforts.
The plan is for this inaugural event to become one that the community rallies behind and looks forward to each year.
Guest speaker this year is Scott Draper, professional tennis player and then golfer at national and international levels. He overcame battles in and outside the sporting arena to now work as a performance consultant to business, and has received rave reviews from other audiences he has presented to.
The evening will also include a three-course meal, local music, an auction, a major raffle and lucky door prizes.
Committee chair Greg Sauer said it is largely thanks to the generosity of the community and the commitment and determination of a dedicated committee that Tenterfield Care Centre began and has continued. The first committee was formed in 1988 to prevent aged care residents from being sent to facilities outside of the local area.
After much fundraising – and with support from both state and local government – Millrace Hostel opened in 1991.
The construction of a nursing home followed, with Haddington Nursing Home opening in 2003.
Mr Mann was the first chairman and remained in that position for 30 years.
Tenterfield Care Centre is still a not-for-profit, community-owned organisation. To ensure that the people who built our community remain in the community as they age, TCC relies on fundraising and the generous support of local businesses and individuals.
Tickets for the dinner are on sale now but are limited. They can be purchased online at www.tenterfieldcarecentre.org.au.
