It used to be Tindall’s and now its Tenterfield Fuels, operated by North Coast Petroleum, but the site at 159 Rouse Street on which the service station operates is actually owned by Tenterfield Shire Council, for now at least.

Councillors of the day resolved back in 2012 to divest council of the property and, assuming a winning bid on the day, the servo will be sold by auction on Friday, November 23. Ray White Rural is conducting the auction, at 10am in its offices.

Council’s chief corporate officer Kylie Smith said an auction was considered the best method of sale as it sets a deadline for all prospective purchasers.
“A public auction also provides transparency for any interested or concerned parties in addition to prospective purchasers,” she said.
“An auction creates competition and is expected to provide the best value to council from the sale.”
The current lease on the property is due to expire in December, and Ms Smith said the existing occupants have the opportunity to bid on the property to secure ownership of the site if it is in their interests.
The proceeds from sale will go into general revenue, with no particular projects earmarked at this stage. Ms Smith said council’s books will also benefit from the winding up of its costs associated with the site.
Council’s Asset Management Strategy includes a goal for the site to be sold prior to December 2018, in alignment with its Community Strategic Plan and Delivery Program, as the asset is not aligned to existing priorities.
Mayor Peter Petty said what the proceeds are used for will be a decision of council, but he noted there are some bridges to be built.
He’s happy to see the the disposal of the servo progressing, saying it’s something that’s been on council radar for a number of years.
‘(Tenterfield Fuels) is a thriving business and I commend the people running it,” he said.
“I’m hoping they’ll show some interest on the day.”
