Tenterfield Shire Council is hosting a Drone Operations Training Course for Local Government tomorrow, Tuesday October 23.
Initial theory will be undertaken in the RSL Pavilion followed by practical demonstration conducted by the course facilitator at Hockey Field Park (corner Martin Street and Landers Lane) from approximately 1.30pm to 4.00pm.
The course has been designed by Local Government NSW in response to the ever-increasing use of RAPS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) to more efficiently complete a range of tasks performed in local government areas. These tasks include vegetation mapping, complex infrastructure management projects, land use planning and a variety of regulation and enforcement responsibilities.
While courses of this nature are generally delivered in Sydney or one of the larger regional councils, Tenterfield’s interest and proactive response led to the selection of the shire to host this training for the northern region.
“The ability to have this training in Tenterfield is great opportunity for council,” Mayor Peter Petty said.
“To have the training providers coming to us avoids the sometimes difficult and expensive situation that occurs when staff must travel long distances to meet training commitments. The offer by a training provider like LGNSW to provide this level of training in-house at Tenterfield means that we can provide effective and efficient training onsite.”
The training will be attended by key council staff whose jobs will benefit from this technology. other course participants will include Rural Fire Service personnel as well as staff from other councils.
There will be around 20 course participants at the full day course which will include sessions on Drone Technologies, Practical Deployment, Drones and the Law, Risks and Mitigation, Aircraft Familiarisation and Drone Flying Demonstrations.
