Tenterfield High School’s first ever girls open cricket team competed against Macintyre High School at Shirley Park on Monday. Macintyre won the toss and elected to bowl.

The Tenterfield High girls batted for their entire 40 over allocation, reaching a total score of 9-163.
Openers Grace Butler and Zoe Jenkins started strong, posting several runs before the fall of the first wicket.
Grace had a lengthy stay at the crease and played some nice shots, particularly on the leg side.
Zoe Jenkins, Ruth Uwikunda and Zali Richards all fell to catches. Amelia Wishart came in at number five and moved the ball nicely into gaps to pick up six singles before being run-out.
Ella Wishart came in at number six and top scored with 17 runs, including four boundaries before playing on.
Bonnie Zappa then stepped up and held her bat for the team to remain not out with four at the end of the 40 overs.
Courtney Watt played some very nice pull shots in her innings, before being caught at square leg.
Tight bowling by Tenterfield High saw Macintyre score just six runs in their first 6 overs with Amelia Wishart taking the first wicket in a caught and bowled.
Some superb teamwork from Tenterfield saw two early run-outs. In her first ever game as wicket-keeper, Ella O’Brien took two great catches behind the stumps.
There were many standout performances with the ball. Bonnie Zappa claimed 2-13; Ruth Uwikunda 2-16; Grace Butler 1-7; Courtney Watt 1-4; Amelia Wishart 1-4 and Zali Richards 1-0.
Zali claimed the last wicket in the first ball of her spell, clean bowling the last Macintyre batter.
Rosie Cross also bowled two outstanding overs for figures of 0-4 but did not concede one extra.
Ella Wishart also bowled three tight overs, conceding just two runs. Macintyre were all bowled out for a total of 77 runs in the 20th over.
Coach Leeza Wishart was delighted with the team’s performance.
All the girls played with great team spirit and supported each other throughout the game. Tenterfield’s next game in the regional knock-out competition is against Oxley High School at a date yet to be decided.
