The semi was heading north on New England Highway pulling an unloaded car trailer when the driver claimed the vehicle overbalanced and skidded 70 metres along the metal railing before careering down the steep descent west of the road. While the driver was uninjured, the truck suffered significant damage.
Emergency services including Tenterfield Police and Tenterfield Fire & Rescue attended to help clear the scene.
Tenterfield Police also issued two drink driving infringements over the weekend, one to a 18-year-old P-plate driver who returned a reading of 0.018 when the ‘novice’ driver limit is zero.
The driver was stopped at 5pm on Friday night after consuming two full-strength schooners five hours earlier, and now has to face Tenterfield Court next month. Sergeant James Boaden said it was a lesson to P-plate drivers to ‘don’t risk it, have a plan B’.
