Hosted in Coffs Harbour McGrady lined up in the Indigenous Australian women’s senior team for the event, which saw 32 nations take part. 

Her side took part in six matches but only managed one win. 

Despite this, McGrady was proud to take part in a World Cup and she even managed to put her name on the scorers’ list. 

“It is one of the things I had a goal to achieve and I thought it was something that would never happen, so I ticked that one off the bucket list,” she said. 

“It was amazing, it was good experience to go down and represent my culture and my people.

“The opening ceremony was something that brought tears to my eyes, walking out with hundreds of other Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people behind our flag, representing our culture and our people.

“I got a try at the World Cup, that was pretty exciting.”

McGrady travels to Stanthorpe every week with her son and daughter to play Oztag. She has played the sport at state and national level and hopes her journey to the World Cup can 

“It is a story you can tell to your kids, the other kids in this community as well,” she said. 

“A bit of inspiration that if someone like me can do it then they can make some goals and achieve them as well.”
