Some of Australia’s leading rodeo riders will compete in Round 2 of the National Rodeo Association (NRA) Finals at the Tenterfield Showground on Saturday, November 17.

The rodeo is the first in the rollout of community-involvement events supported by drought funding to bring people together to forget about drought woes.
“This is a great opportunity to bring the whole community together for an evening of fun and action,” Tenterfield Show Society vice-president (and mayor) Peter Petty said.
“We’ve planned the event as an affordable day out for our local community, as well as a chance to see some great riders competing in our newly renovated rodeo arena.”
As well as the action in the rodeo arena, there’ll be free entertainment for the children including a Scooby Doo jumping castle and slide and mechanical bull ride.
The mechanical bull ride is free for children until 6pm and open for adults for a coin donation after 6pm.
The NRA program features a full program of rodeo events, including bull ride, saddle ride, bareback, rope & tie, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel race and break away roping, as well as steer undecorating.
Junior events will include barrel racing, breakaway roping, junior bull ride, junior steer ride and poddy ride.
Tenterfield’s event is one of three NRA rounds leading up to the grand finals, with other rounds to be held in Maryborough and Caboolture. Australia’s top 15 riders in each event are eligible to compete
A bar and barbecue will run throughout the event. Gates open at 3pm (NSW time).
“This is a full-blown rodeo, compared to the revised rodeo program that we see at the show," Mr Petty said.
He said the National Rodeo was a big success when it last came to town two years ago. He hopes the community will come in droves and support it this time around, have some fun and get together.
Even if they’re not particularly interested in some or any of the rodeo events, there will be plenty more entertainment.
Proceeds from the day will be funnelled back to the drought-affected through the system already established by local Salvos Joel and Yolande Soper. Mr Petty said the Sopers will also be onsite during the event, if anyone wants to have a chat about what services could be available to help them out.
