The group’s year turns over in October, and president John ‘Dodge’ Landers had his fingers crossed that they could surpass the last year’s effort of $74,000. With the addition of the $2000 community grant received from council the total for 2017/18 smashed the $75,000 threshold.
On behalf of the support group, Dodge presented deputy mayor Greg Sauer with a memento of thanks for the financial aid.
The annual Gala Dinner and Charity Auction at the Tenterfield Bowling Club in August raised $7250, with the auction of items donated by Tenterfield businesses raising $5250.
The Tenterfield Arts & Crafts Society and the Diggers’ Garden Club in Stanthorpe each donated $1000 on the night.
The group also received nearly $500 from the Tenterfield Showground Trust, and receives one of Regional Australia Bank’s community partnership program cheques each year.
They raise funds providing catering services at various functions as well.
Of course the support group’s op shop in High Street operates year round, and has become a busy centre for recycling goods and clothing.
Dodge said it’s a combined effort from a large group of volunteers that resulted in the great result for this year. It just sets the bar even higher for next year.
