The introduction of golf as a sports option at Tenterfield primary schools is already paying dividends with three participants taking out trophies in the 2019 Tenterfield Junior Golf Tournament that wrapped up on Wednesday, January 9. That’s after taking up the sport as little as two months ago.

Elly’s mum Jenny said the club had been very supportive of Elly’s foray into golf, lending her a set of clubs to play with and even inviting her to play in the ladies competition.
The good feedback she’s receiving is spurring her on, but she just has to learn to not be so hard on herself, several observers noted.
Local players figured well in results, with star junior player Michael Cutmore again showing form, named the Day 2 winner of the 54-hole boys competition.
The 54-hole Colts competition was a two-horse race between brothers Jacob and Brandon Lawson, with Jacob earning a free dinner at his brother’s expense with his efforts.
Both young men praised the course and the organisation of the tournament, with Jacob saying it was well worth taking the time off work to compete. He regretted he will soon be too old to compete.
Golf pro Charlie Earp hoped that the event can attract some female colt equivalents – named ‘debutantes’ – in future, with few events around the country catering to this segment of the field.
Mr Earp was thrilled to see participants from the school program flow into the tournament field, thankful for any initiative that sees young people get involved in golf or any other sport, and staying out of trouble.
