Hoping to raise around $2000, Mr Phipps said he was blown away by takings exceeding $13,000 from 25 lots auctioned. He credited the skills of auctioneer Glen Curry in keeping the bidding enthusiastic, shored up by silent bids submitted earlier by those who couldn't attend on the night.
It was a complete clearance, with a Lou Potter sketch proving as popular as always. Her rendition of 'Old House' went for $2300. A framed print 'Last of the Tuskers' went to Hillier Conversions for $3200.
"To raise $13,000 for the Cancer Council is one hit is phenomenal," Mr Phipps said.
The couple have two more fundraisers coming up: a trivia night at Deepwater Brewery on March 9 and a golf day at Deepwater at the date yet to be fixed.
Mr Phipps thanked everyone in town who supported the fundraiser, and the crew at Our Place.
"They did a hell of a lot," he said.
