The Thunder will field four teams in this Saturday's opening fixtures against Ballandean.
Registrar Ellen Counter said there has been a host of new players join the club, as well as a few returnees, but is still hoping for more.
"We have had a good mix of players returning to play again and have had a few new players who have come to join the club," she said.
"The numbers however in all grades have been lower then previous years at this point in the lead up to the new season.
"I believe if we can get numbers up in all grades we have a good chance of putting up some good competition for our opponents across the border."
The junior Colts will begin this Saturday's matches at 11.55am, followed by senior Colts at 1.15pm, ladies at 2.45pm and men's at 4.25pm teams.
"This weekend's game is against Ballandean; it is always a tough day when we take on Ballandean, but being the first round it will give us an idea as a club of what the competition will be like this season."
Counter believes the tussles against the Rovers will give the club an indication of where they will sit in terms of the competition.
