The Salvation Army's Joel Soper already has lots of fencing experience under his belt but the Army's response to local emergencies is now much better equipped, thanks to a Granite Borders Landcare donation of tools and a lockable trailer.

Landcare's Mandy Craig saw firsthand the good work the Salvos did during February's bushfires when she volunteered for the relief effort at Tenterfield Memorial Hall. Many Landcare executive members were also directly affected by the fires, resulting in the group committing to donating $3000 of fencing tools to the Salvos, in the days before BlazeAid arrived.

Mr Soper now also has somewhere to keep the tools, along with catering equipment, with Landcare handing over the keys to its under-utilised 7x5 foot trailer.
He said he's now much better equipped to help out in flood, fire and other emergency events, in partnership with Landcare. The aid is not restricted to group members, with the facility ready to help any landholder in trouble.
It's a big week for the Salvos with the Red Shield Appeal doorknock this weekend. There will also be a collection bucket at Saturday's Farmers and Producers Market.
