The Tenterfield team captain, Kyanne, won the toss and elected to bat. At the end of their 20 overs, The Sir Henry Parkes girls had scored 3-121.
Each of the 11 girls in the team had a bat, with Elly P top scoring with eight not out, including the shot of the day, a pull through mid-wicket for four runs.
Top order batters, Matilda, Kyanne and Adele batted strongly to be not out on two, five and three respectively.
Olivia and Annie both managed to score a run each and remained not out at the end of their batting stints.
The running between the wickets was exceptional, with many extra runs gained by putting the fielding side under pressure.
The Mullumbimby girls could only amass 7-93 in reply, with the Tenterfield team displaying more accurate bowling and some excellent fielding that included run-outs from Beth; Matilda and Ellie M.
Kyanne bowled out two batters and Matilda bowled one.
In her first ever game of cricket, Mikayla snared a wicket when Elly P took an excellent caught behind off her bowling. Sisters Ellie M and Olivia were both impressive with the ball and were unlucky not to get a wicket.
Congratulations to all the Tenterfield girls on their great team spirit and sportsmanship.
The team will advance to the second round of the girls PSSA Knockout Competition at a date and location yet to be determined.
During this game, The Sir Henry Parkes girls christened some new cricket equipment which was purchased by the Tenterfield District Cricket Association with $2,493 it received in grant funding from the Grassroots Cricket Fund.
The equipment included Keith Dudgeon u12; u14 and small adult kits. All three local Tenterfield schools as well as club junior cricketers will have access to the new equipment.
This October will see hard ball junior cricket recommencing in Tenterfield for the first time in some 10 years.
Cricket NSW will be running a free Level 1 Coaching Course in Tenterfield for community members, including parents, students over 16-years-old, teachers, cricket tragics, players in the Tenterfield social competition etc.
Expressions of interest can be texted to Jess Willemse from Cricket NSW on 0478 285 751 or via email to jessica.willemse@cricketnsw.com.au.
A minimum of 10 participants will be required to run the course.
It is hoped that strong numbers of junior players and volunteer helpers for the upcoming cricket season will result in a marked improvement in the skills and competitiveness of local school teams.
