Another highlight of the calendar for local anglers has bitten the dust, for this year at least, with the Mingoola Public School P&C committee being forced to cancel its annual fishing competition due to a lack of water.

The P&C generally holds the well-supported fishing weekend each Spring with thousands of dollars of trophies and prizes up for grabs, in both junior and senior categories for Murray Cod, Perch and eel-tail catfish catches.

Of course the event is also a major money maker for the school.
Sadly that won't be the case this year, with committee member Julia Harpham advising that there's cracked, dry riverbed where the competition usually takes place.
"We have postponed the competition until 2020 and are just hoping it rains before then," she said, with the Mingoola district hit particularly hard by the ongoing drought.
