With the announcement of the closure of the Target Store in Tenterfield on August 24, Mr Petty expressed his concern at the loss of not only a necessary shopping facility for town residents, but also the loss of 11 jobs and income to the town at a time when drought conditions are severely affecting local business.

"Although this closure may have a detrimental impact on our community, I also see it as an opportunity for our local businesses to expand their offerings to fill the gap which will allow our residents to continue to enjoy a personal shopping experience," he said.
"Think of the impact this will have on job security and the flow of income throughout our other stores, most of which are locally-owned.
"The Tenterfield Chamber of Tourism, Industry & Business is working hard and providing some great initiatives such as the Why Leave Town Gift Card to ensure your dollars stay in our town."
