The photo was taken by council's water manager Gillian Marchant, who's obviously been keeping a close eye on developments as the dam's water level becomes critical.
The new addition to the town's water source, along with the black swans and other birdlife, doesn't seem too concerned about the low water levels. Indeed it may well be revelling in it, as this is the first report of it revealing itself in the waters.
Is it a lump of weed, a log or something more sinister? Perhaps such sightings may become more common should the water level continue to fall as council staff race to secure additional water resources.
Meanwhile be sure to keep an eye out for the 'monster' in the dam when driving past, assuming it limits itself to a watery environment.
