The ADF's Dr Julian Keats will be on hand to provide a straightforward explanation of what alcohol and drugs do to the chemicals in the brain, in turn disrupting priorities and behaviour.
Dr Keats has a background in assessing, treating and managing addiction in patients. He has a special interest in harm-reduction and the management of chronic pain coupled with addiction, along with the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C infection.
There will be a Q&A session following his presentation.
The second speaker is Zizi Chorida of Community Minds, with a long history of community development and capacity building projects. Zizi will facilitate the building of a community network to create a Local Drug and Alcohol Team.
The Hub's Lexie Sherren is inviting along anyone in the community who has an interest in doing something for the community. Invitees cover an area hemmed by Stanthorpe, Texas, Glen Innes and Inverell.
"I think it will be really interesting," Mrs Sherren said.
The workshop is free and morning tea and lunch are provided, but bookings are essential. Call (02) 6736 2619 or click here to register.
