Despite being behind on the scoreboard for a large part of the clash, the Bees managed to scrape home with a 22-17 victory.
"They gave us a real run for our money, we were trailing for most of the game," Bumblebees coach Phil Jones said.
"There was three tries each and we kicked two conversions and field goal with about a minute to go which sealed it with us.
"They were very solid right across the paddock.
"We hung in there and came away with the points.
"We needed a good, hard game, leading up to the next few."
It was important for the Bees to get the win to stay in touch with the top four and stay in finals contention.
Jones said their defence was what got them across the line.
"Half the game we defended our line," he said.
"Our line defence was really good. Scrums and line outs were solid, a few things we need to work on with our set plays but nothing major.
"Everyone played well, they ground it out that's the big thing in those sort of games.
"No one dropped the bundle, we threw the ball around when we had to and scored tries when we had to."
Despite snagging the win, Jones found one area of their performance which needs work heading into the final two matches of the regular season.
"One of the negatives was we didn't get enough turnover of the ball," he said.
"They put a lot of phases together which put the pressure on us and we weren't getting there and turning the ball over.
"All credit to them, they have a good, experienced forward pack and they showed that.
"Once we did turn the ball over we did look really good."
Anthony Thomas was the Bees' players' player while Grant Townes took the three club points, Thomas two and Matthew Bertelli claiming one.
"It was a good team effort," Jones said.
"Everyone played well which was the positive.
"It was pretty hard to pick the points but those guys stood out."
Two more games remain in the Bees regular season and it doesn't get any tougher than travelling away to face the ladder leaders this Saturday before rounding out their home and away fixtures with a clash at Federation Park against second-placed Evans River.
"We have Yamba this weekend away which will be a tough one but we should be at full-strength, or close to it, and then Evans at home," Jones said.
