Despite struggling in the throes of a drought that sees many paddocks dirt-bare and water a scarce commodity, the Mingoola community came together for the 2019 Mole and Sovereign Rivers Red Cross AGM and lunch, and raised an astonishing $1969.
The branch hosted 'Lunch influenced by our mothers' for about 40 people at Mingoola Hall, where Sandra Smith was reelected president, Phillipa Lillyman secretary, and Lyn Sheppard treasurer. Bob Smith, Mac Frazer and Frank Caldwell reappointed as patrons.
It was a fun day with members asked to cook things from their mothers' recipes and share stories of their childhood, some more outrageous than others. There was a display of toys, books, games and photos from yesteryear, which everyone found incredibly interesting.
There was also a dice race around the hall garden with quite shonky old steeds from the toy cupboard, Duncan Macdonald victorious.
Uralla-based Red Cross zone coordinator Erica Barwell also attended, along with Margaret Kiehne and Mary Hollingworth from Deepwater and Annette Low and Loma Wright from Glen Innes, and Chloe Damon from the organisation's Sydney head office.
