Maybe it was the Tenterfield sausage sanga that clenched the deal, but two days after Governor General David Hurley caught up with local volunteers of the Lions Club, he and wife Linda have been announced as the new patrons of Lions Australia.

"I am delighted to be a patron of Lions," Mr Hurley said.
"Every day, Lions across Australia go above and beyond to help people in need and make our community a better place to live. From medical research, environmental work, emergency and disaster relief, helping the deaf and blind and supporting our youth, the work of Lions makes such a difference.
"Linda and I look forward to working with this wonderful organisation and its many volunteers across Australia."
Since the first club was formed in Australia 70 years ago Lions has grown dramatically in size and impact, with more than 1200 Lions Clubs now in Australia, including Leo Clubs for young Australians, Lioness Clubs for Women and a range of specialty clubs tailored for specific needs, ethnicities and interests.
"It's an absolute pleasure to welcome the Governor-General and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley as patrons of Lions Australia," Lions Australia chairperson Kim Forrest said.
"It's an exciting time for our organisation. We have some incredible projects happening right across the country lead by thousands of passionate volunteers.
"The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley are wonderful leaders in the community and we are very grateful for their support."
The Tenterfield Lions Club typifies the organisation's mission to help others and give back to the community. Members have been working hard to help feed firefighters, evacuees and disaster recovery personnel involved in this month's bushfires, and they catered the Governor General's visit on Monday.
