Tenterfield Shire Council has started trialling separating recyclables being self-hauled to the Tenterfield Waste Transfer Station (WTS).
The separated waste will be baled up and sent directly to our recycling contractor for processing.
"There are currently many problems throughout the world with recycling", said Mayor Peter Petty.
"China has stopped taking recycled materials and other Asian countries have refused to take recycled waste from countries such as Australia and Canada.
"In order to ensure we continue to have a market for our recyclables and they don't just end up in landfill, Council is asking the community to support this request to ensure we retain that market."
Residents taking recyclables to the Tenterfield Waste Transfer Station are asked to separate this waste into the following categories and place in the appropriately marked bin:
- Paper and cardboard
Council said they thanked residents for their cooperation and understanding during this trial.
